It is not uncommon for startups to ignore or assume that their intellectual property needs to be secured in the early stages of their business. Failure to do so, even for non tech startups can result in rather disastrous consequences later on. Even the selection of a name for the business, a form of intellectual property, can lead to all sorts of negative consequences when the entrepreneur finds out later that the name has been trademarked by another company.
